First Meeting Features Collage Artist Michael Cargile

Scan0027http://www.dumpstaphotoart.com/

Mike Cargile is a Hall of Fame Advertising and Marketing Executive and author of eight books including three books on photography.  For the past year Mike has been working on a new concept called “Dumpsta Photography & Art.”  This concept involves working with alternative, recycled, montage and collage materials and alternative techniques to transform both the image and content of a photograph.  His photographs contain unique and surprising perspectives that challenge the viewer’s expectation of what a photograph is.

Mike’s photos all have a cut-and-paste aesthetic that consists of found objects from garbage cans, trash bins, and dumpsters.  His photos are echoes from the past reconfigured with a new attitude.  Mike says, “It’s a way to communicate ideas through reused and recycled objects that would normally wind up in some land fill”.
Hope to see you on September 21st!

April 13th Meeting: Painting on Silk

After studying drawing and watercolor at the Cleveland Museum of Art, Donna discovered her real artistic love – hand-dyed and hand-painted textiles. While primarily self-taught, she has enriched her experience through classes at the Cleveland Institute of Art. She employs various techniques from direct dye application to batik and traditional Japanese shibori resist dyeing. Donna works at her studio in the 5th Street Arcades. Her work is sold at Sandy Buffie Designs. Donna’s work was recently featured on the television program New Day Cleveland. She is a member of the Textile Art Alliance at the Cleveland Museum of Art.

Back by popular request, Flo Smith will share her talents with us at the Feb. 9th meeting. While working with gesso is her main interest, she really enjoys various watercolor techniques. One of her favorite ways of painting is what she calls the “Bull’s Eye” method.  It is fun and successful.
